Updated: May 3, 2024

WHAT iS AUTISM Spectrum Disorder?

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) refers to a disorder characterized by impaired social communication and the presence of restricted or repetitive behaviors. These behaviors pose challenges in the individual's daily activities, making it difficult for them to navigate their daily lives. The severity of the disorder can be classified into different levels, ranging from mild to severe.

WHAT iS ABA (APPLIED BEHAVIOR Analysis)?

Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is the systematic application of interventions based on the principles of learning theory to enhance socially significant behaviors to a meaningful extent, and to provide evidence that the interventions utilized are responsible for the observed improvements in behavior.

Participation in ABA

Parent training, rooted in the principles of behavior science, has proven to be beneficial for both parents with and without disabilities. This form of training empowers parents to enhance their child's quality of life. The collaborative efforts between the parent and the trainer yield the most effective results in parent training services.

BENEFITS OF PARENT PARTICIPATION

  • Enhancements in the child's social and communication abilities

  • Advancements in the child's academic knowledge and school-related conduct

  • Apply acquired skills in various environments

  • Sustain acquired skills

  • Enhancements in the parent-child bond

  • Parents can acquire effective strategies to handle their child's behaviors

CONCLUSION

Research consistently demonstrates the importance of parent education and training in relation to autism spectrum disorder and applied behavior analysis, particularly in the context of an individual child. Through involvement in ABA services and parent training, parents can enhance the chances of experiencing various advantages for themselves, their child, and their family.
